Many online forms, application portals, and government websites require images in JPG format and will reject PNG files. To convert a PNG photo to JPG on Android and iPhone, ResizePing lets you convert and resize photos directly on your phone.
Need a JPG photo? ResizePing converts and resizes photos on iPhone and Android. Get it on Google Play or the App Store.
Steps to convert a photo to JPG
The conversion steps are the same on Android and iPhone:
- Open ResizePing on your phone, or share the photo into ResizePing from Photos, Files, Drive, or another app.
- Select the photo you want to convert. To convert several photos at the same time, select them together to run as a batch.
- Choose JPG as your output format. WEBP output is also available if needed.
- Choose a quality level: Best, Balanced, or Smallest. You can also choose an exact target size in KB or MB, or pick a preset such as 100 KB or 1 MB.
- Check the projected result size on screen before running the job. The app shows the projected size and warns when a target is impossible.
- Run the conversion. The result screen displays the before and after size, and lets you tap Share or Done.
When you need a JPG instead of PNG
PNG is widely used for screenshots and graphics. However, many submission systems enforce strict format rules:
- Official application portals: Visa portals, government exam forms, and job application sites frequently require JPG uploads and will show an error if you submit a PNG.
- Strict upload limits: PNG files can be larger than necessary for standard photo uploads. Converting to JPG helps produce smaller file sizes.
- Compatibility: JPG is recognized almost everywhere, including older software and document systems.
Quality levels and presets
When exporting to JPG, ResizePing provides three quality levels:
- Best: Favours image quality.
- Smallest: Favours a smaller file size.
- Balanced: Sits between Best and Smallest.
You can also resize or compress photos to an exact file size (KB or MB) or exact dimensions (pixels, percent, or print size in mm, cm, or inch with DPI). Presets include 100 KB, 1 MB, 1080 px, and passport 35x45 mm. Completed jobs are saved in a searchable history so you can re-run any job in one tap.
If your photo also needs to meet a specific file size cap, see how to compress image size on Android and iPhone.
Location data and privacy
Location data is stripped by default, so the converted JPG does not include the geographic coordinates where the photo was taken. Your photos never leave your device.
