To reduce a photo to 2 MB for an online application, open your photo in ResizePing on Android or iPhone, set Mode to Target size, and type 2000 in the Target (KB) field. The app projects your result size and saves the file directly on your phone.

Need to reduce a photo for an application? ResizePing helps you hit your target file size on iPhone and Android. Get it on Google Play or the App Store.

Online application portals for jobs, universities, and government filings frequently impose a file size cap of 2 MB or 1 MB for photo submissions. High-resolution smartphone cameras routinely take photos that weigh several megabytes, causing portal upload forms to reject them. On Android and iPhone, ResizePing lets you target whole kilobyte values so you can reduce photo size to 2 mb or 1 mb without desktop software. If your application enforces smaller limits, see our guides on how to reduce photo size to 100 KB and how to compress an image to 200 KB.

Steps

Follow this order to prepare your application image: crop first, set your Target size, and lower resolution if needed.

  1. Crop unnecessary background in your gallery app first so only the required subject remains.
  2. Open ResizePing and choose the cropped photo.
  3. Set Mode to Target size.
  4. In Target (KB), type 2000. Because the Target (KB) field takes whole KB and 2 MB equals 2048 KB, typing 2000 leaves headroom for the limit. For a 1 MB limit, type 1000 or select the built-in "1 MB or under" preset.
  5. Pick the format your application asks for: JPG, PNG or WEBP. Leave Strip metadata on.
  6. Review the Projected size displayed for your photo before you run.
  7. Tap Run to save the compressed photo.
  8. Check the result size before uploading to your application.

If 2 MB is too small for the photo

Most mobile photos compress to 2 MB without difficulty, but extremely large multi-megapixel panoramas or uncompressed scans may struggle if dimensions remain massive. When a target cannot be reached, ResizePing warns that the target cannot be reached and suggests lowering the resolution.

Lower the resolution first, then try the target again:

  1. In ResizePing, switch Mode to Dimensions or Percent and scale down the image dimensions.
  2. Tap Run to save the smaller image.
  3. Open the smaller result, switch Mode to Target size, type 2000 in Target (KB), and tap Run.

Lowering the pixel resolution first gives the tool fewer pixels to encode when you compress to 2 MB. For smaller limits, see our guides for 100 KB and 200 KB.

What to know

  • ResizePing works on photos. It does not have an ID, face, or signature mode, and it does not change backgrounds or check portal rules.
  • Never uploaded to our servers.
  • The Target (KB) field takes whole numbers in KB. Because 2 MB is 2048 KB, typing 2000 leaves headroom against hard caps. For 1 MB, type 1000 or pick the built-in "1 MB or under" preset.
  • The recommended order is to crop first, apply Target size, and lower resolution only if needed.
  • The projected size is an estimate; verify the real size on the result screen before uploading.
  • The quality slider spans 1 to 100, with output in JPG, PNG or WEBP. Location data is stripped by default.
  • Process a single photo or run batch files together on Android and iPhone.
  • Built-in presets include 100 KB, "1 MB or under", 1080 px, and passport 35x45 mm.
  • The saved file can land a little above the number you type, by roughly 0.5 to 2% in our tests. Typing 2000 for a 2 MB (2048 KB) limit absorbs this margin.
  • History keeps your past runs.
  • Free with one small banner ad; ResizePing is on Google Play and the App Store.

FAQ

How do I reduce a photo to 2 MB on Android or iPhone?

Open ResizePing, select your photo, set Mode to Target size, type 2000 in Target (KB), check the projected size, and tap Run.

Why do I type 2000 instead of 2048 for a 2 MB limit?

The Target (KB) field takes whole numbers in kilobytes. Because 2 MB equals 2048 KB, typing 2000 leaves headroom in case the saved file lands 0.5 to 2% above the typed target.

How do I reduce photo size to 1 MB on Android?

Set Mode to Target size and type 1000 in Target (KB), or select the built-in "1 MB or under" preset. Check the projected size, then tap Run.

What order should I follow when resizing my photo?

Crop your photo first to frame the subject properly. Then set your target size in Target size mode. If the photo cannot reach the target, reduce pixel dimensions in Dimensions or Percent mode.

What should I do if the form has a smaller limit like 100 KB or 200 KB?

Enter 100 or 200 in Target (KB), or read our step-by-step guides for reducing photo size to 100 KB and compressing an image to 200 KB.
