Published October 27, 2026

The passport photo size for India is 630 x 810 pixels, in colour, on a white background, with the face taking up 80-85% of the photograph, according to the Passport Seva ICAO photo guidelines. ResizePing can set the 630 x 810 pixel size on Android or iPhone, but you have to frame the photo correctly first.

Need a photo at this size? ResizePing resizes photos to exact dimensions or a file size on iPhone and Android. Get it on Google Play or the App Store.

ResizePing sets the size only. It does not crop, change the background or check your photo against the rules, so frame the shot properly before you resize.

The official Passport Seva spec

From the "Guidelines for ICAO Compliant Photographs for Passport Applications" on the Passport Seva site:

  • Close-up of the head and top of the shoulders, with the face taking up 80-85% of the photograph.
  • Colour photograph, 630 x 810 pixels.
  • Unaltered by computer software.
  • White background.
  • Look directly at the camera, full face, front view, centred and not tilted.
  • Full head visible, from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin.
  • Natural skin tones, eyes open and clearly visible, no hair across the eyes.
  • Uniform lighting, with no shadows, flash reflections or red eye. Not blurred.
  • Mouth closed, natural expression.
  • Glasses off, to avoid reflections.
  • Head coverings only for religious reasons, with the edges of the face clearly shown.

The Indian Embassy in the USA states that uploading an ICAO-compliant photograph is mandatory for passport, surrender, PCC and GEP applications.

How to make the photo on your phone

First take the photo: head and shoulders, front-on, white background, good even light, and the face filling 80-85% of the frame. 630 x 810 is a portrait shape, so frame the shot upright before you resize.

  1. Install ResizePing and add your photo. You can also share it in from Photos, Files or Drive.
  2. Choose pixels as the unit.
  3. Enter width 630 and height 810.
  4. Check the projected file size shown before you run.
  5. Run it, then compare before and after on the Done screen.
  6. Tap Share or Done, then upload the result on the Passport Seva screen.

Pixels, KB and mm are different

The Passport Seva guideline gives the size in pixels. It states no file size in KB and no size in mm. If the Passport Seva upload screen shows a KB limit, follow that limit. ResizePing can set an exact file size: see how to resize a photo to a set KB size or how to reduce a photo to 100 KB.

A 35 x 45 mm photo is a different size, used for other forms and visas. It is not the Passport Seva spec. If you need it, see resize a photo to passport size (35x45 mm) and passport photo 35x45 mm in inches and pixels.
