What Does a Blocked Contact See on WhatsApp? Last Seen, Photo and Status
A blocked contact can't see your last seen, online, status updates or profile photo changes. Here is what that covers, and what it doesn't. Not affiliated with WhatsApp.

When you block someone, WhatsApp says your last seen, online, status updates and any changes to your profile photo won't be visible to them. Blocking has limits, though, mainly in groups and in your contacts list.

What they can't see and what they still see
| Item | After you block them |
|---|---|
| Last seen | Not visible to them |
| Online | Not visible to them |
| Status updates | Not visible to them (see timing below) |
| Profile photo changes | Not visible to them |
| Your messages in a group you both are in | Still visible to them |
| Your contact entry | Still there: blocking doesn't remove them from your contacts or you from theirs |
Last seen and online
Both are hidden from a blocked user. In a group, blocking won't stop you being counted as online if your setting is Everyone, but a blocked user can't see whether you're online specifically.
Profile photo
Changes you make to your profile photo won't be visible to users you've blocked.
Status
- A blocked user can't see your status after the block.
- They can still see a status you posted before the block. It disappears within 24 hours.
- The same applies in reverse: you stop receiving their status updates.
Groups
Blocking doesn't stop a blocked user from seeing your messages in a group you are both in.
Your contacts list and chat
Blocking doesn't delete anyone from your contacts. To remove them, delete the contact in your phone's address book separately. The existing chat stays in your chat list, so delete or archive it if you want it gone. Under their name and in the chat you'll see "You blocked this person."
You can find everyone you've blocked in Settings > Privacy > Blocked contacts.
What you stop receiving
You no longer receive their messages, calls and status updates.
If you unblock them
You won't receive messages, calls or status updates that were sent while they were blocked. The Help Center does not document anything else about what happens to those messages.
Does the other person get told?
WhatsApp's pages on blocking don't say whether the other person is notified. WhatsApp also says it can't tell you whether someone has blocked you, or who has.
Messaging a number you have not saved
ClickPing opens a chat with a valid WhatsApp number without saving it to your contacts, on Android and iPhone. It has nothing to do with blocking or your WhatsApp privacy settings.
