Notification History Not Saving on Android? How to Fix It
If your notification log stopped saving on Android, notification access or background running is usually the cause. Here are the exact RecallPing Setup steps to get capture running again.

You expected a notification in your log and it is not there. With RecallPing, capture can stop when notification access is off, or when the phone stops the app in the background. RecallPing alerts you with a notification titled Capture may not be running, and tapping it opens Setup. This guide walks through the fix. It is for RecallPing on Android. For your phone's built-in history, see Android notification history.

Steps to get capture running again
- Open RecallPing. On the home screen, tap the Setup card.
- Find the Notification access row. It shows Needs setup when something is wrong. While it is reconnecting you will see "Allowed, but not connected yet. Reconnecting…".
- Tap Check (the button says Grant if access is off). This opens Android's Notification access screen. It does not run a test inside the app.
- Toggle RecallPing off and on again.
- Go back to RecallPing and confirm the row no longer says Needs setup.
Stop the phone from stopping capture
If capture keeps stopping, two more Setup rows help:
- Keep capture running: "Turn this on so capture keeps running". Tap Turn on to open the battery optimisation exemption dialog or list.
- Auto-start: "Allow auto-start so capture is not stopped in the background". Tap Choose to open your phone maker's auto-start screen, or App info if there is none.
You can also open Settings > Capture mode and pick Guaranteed. It keeps a small notification showing so the phone will not stop the app. RecallPing suggests it if you notice notifications missing.
What was missed
Notifications cleared while capture was off can't be recovered. Ones still in your notification shade are saved when it reconnects. The log shows no gap marker, so a quiet stretch in your log can mean capture was off.
RecallPing also logs nothing when an app never posts a notification, for example when the chat is open or muted in that app.
Keeping what matters
Notifications are kept for 30 days, and pinned ones are kept longer. Filter the log by app, date or type. An optional app lock uses your fingerprint, face or device PIN. Notification text is stored on your phone, and the app uses the network for ads and Firebase diagnostics only.
