Notification History on Samsung Galaxy: Where to Find It and What It Misses

Turn on and find Notification history on Samsung Galaxy phones, understand its limits, and keep a searchable on-device notification log on Android.

Published October 25, 2026

To find notification history on a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet, open Settings, tap Notifications, choose Advanced settings, and select Notification history. Turn on the switch at the top. Samsung states that this shows recent notifications as they appeared and that history appears from then on. Built-in history is off until you turn it on, shows nothing from before, includes no search, and Samsung gives no retention period.

Want to keep a searchable log from now on? RecallPing saves your notifications on your phone. Get it on Google Play.

Steps

For standard Android devices, see our Android notification history guide. On Samsung Galaxy devices, follow these steps:

1. Open Advanced settings

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Tap Advanced settings. Exact menu names can vary by One UI version or phone.

2. Turn on Notification history

  1. Tap Notification history.
  2. Turn on the switch at the top. Samsung notes that history appears from now on.
  3. If the page is empty, check back after new notifications arrive. It shows nothing received before you turned it on.

3. Review recent notifications

Once turned on, the screen lists recent notifications as they appeared. Unlike Google's Android history, which includes a Recently dismissed list covering about the last 24 hours, Samsung specifies no retention period and offers no search.

4. Use a notification log app going forward

A dedicated Android notification log app like RecallPing keeps what the phone receives after you grant notification access, making future alerts searchable.

What to know

Keep these points in mind regarding Samsung's built-in history and notification logs:

  • Off until enabled: Samsung's history is off until you turn it on, showing nothing from before.
  • Retention: Samsung shows recent notifications as they appeared, but gives no retention period. Google's Android history keeps alerts for about the last 24 hours.
  • No search: Samsung describes no search feature for its built-in notification history.
  • Captures forward only: RecallPing keeps what the phone receives from then on once notification access is granted. It cannot recover notifications from before access was granted or while capture was stopped.
  • Full-text search: RecallPing provides full-text search with quoted phrases, AND, OR, NOT, and word-start matching.
  • Filters: Filter saved alerts by app, date range, or type (codes, deliveries, promotions).
  • On-device database: History stays on the device in a private on-device database. Internet is used only for ads and crash/usage diagnostics, which carry no notification content.
  • Sensitive permission: Notification access is a sensitive permission. RecallPing includes an optional app lock with fingerprint, face, or phone PIN.

FAQ

  • Can I see Samsung notification history from before I turned it on? No. Samsung notification history is off until you turn it on, so it shows nothing from before.
  • How long does Samsung keep notification history? Samsung gives no retention period on its support page, stating only that it shows recent notifications as they appeared. Google's Android history keeps alerts for about the last 24 hours.
  • Does a notification log app keep more? A notification log app keeps what arrives after notification access is granted and adds search. It cannot recover notifications from before access was granted.
  • Is notification access sensitive? Yes. It allows an app to see incoming alerts across your device. RecallPing stores history in a private on-device database and provides an optional app lock with fingerprint, face, or phone PIN.
