To find a delivery update or bank alert you dismissed on Android, check the originating app's internal messages or orders tab, review your SMS inbox for automated texts, or open your phone's built-in Notification history in Settings. If built-in notification history was turned on before the alert arrived, dismissed notifications remain listed there for about 24 hours.

Steps

When you accidentally swipe away a delivery arrival notice, tracking number, or account alert, use these steps to retrieve the details.

1. Check the source app's messages or orders tab

Dismissing a notification banner only clears the status bar alert. The underlying event often remains recorded inside the app itself:

  • For delivery and shopping apps, open the app and tap Orders, Activity, or the in-app Notifications bell. Many delivery apps keep order updates there.
  • For banking and financial apps, sign in and open your transaction history or account messages tab to review recently posted charges or account notices.

2. Check your SMS inbox for bank texts

Many banks and card issuers deliver transaction alerts, security notices, and balance warnings through automated SMS messages rather than in-app push notifications.

  1. Open your default text messaging app on your phone.
  2. Review the top of your inbox for recent messages sent from short codes or automated financial services.
  3. Open the conversation thread to view the transaction amount, account balance, or timestamp.

3. Check Android built-in Notification history

If the alert was a push notification and not an SMS, Android's built-in history may still display it if the feature was turned on beforehand:

  1. Open your device Settings app.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Select Notification history. Google notes that some devices may not have notification history and that settings can vary slightly among devices.
  4. Review the Recently dismissed list or check the notifications from the last 24 hours.

On a Samsung Galaxy device, the setting is located under advanced menus:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Notifications, then select Advanced settings.
  3. Tap Notification history, and confirm the switch is turned on. Samsung notes that notification history appears from the point you turn it on forward.

Built-in history covers about the last 24 hours. If the setting was off when you dismissed the banner, the screen will be empty.

4. Use a notification log app going forward

Because built-in history keeps alerts for only a short window and lacks search, installing a dedicated notification log app ensures future delivery details and account alerts remain searchable on your device.

What to know

Using a dedicated notification log like RecallPing provides structured tools to manage important alerts on Android:

  • Filter by type, app, and date: Filter your saved alerts by type, including deliveries, codes, or promotions, or narrow your log by specific apps and date ranges.
  • Grouped senders: Senders are automatically grouped into categories such as banking, shopping, delivery, utilities, and work to keep your records organized.
  • Full-text search: Search saved alert text using keywords, quoted phrases, AND, OR, NOT, or word-start search to find a tracking number or reference code.
  • Pin an item to keep it: Pin critical delivery confirmations or account notices to make sure they remain accessible in your history.
  • Captures forward only: RecallPing saves notifications your phone receives after you grant notification access. It cannot recover notifications that arrived before access was granted or while capture was paused.
  • On-device privacy: History stays on the device in a private on-device database and is never uploaded to our servers. RecallPing uses the internet only for ads and crash or usage diagnostics, and notification content is never included in those requests.
  • Sensitive permission: Notification access is a sensitive permission because a log app can see incoming transaction alerts, verification codes, and personal messages across monitored apps. An optional app lock protected by your fingerprint, face, or phone PIN adds extra security.

FAQ

  • Can I recover a bank alert received before I turned on notification history? No. Neither Android built-in history nor third-party notification log apps can retrieve alerts that arrived before history was enabled or notification access was granted.
  • Are my banking alerts and notification details uploaded to a server? No. Notification text stays on your device in a private database. It is never uploaded to our servers, and network requests for diagnostics carry no notification content.
  • How do I keep an important delivery confirmation from clearing out? In RecallPing, you can pin an item to keep it in your history so you can reference tracking numbers or arrival instructions whenever you need them.
