WhatsApp Status Not Loading or Not Showing on Android
Can't see a WhatsApp status on Android? Work through this checklist from WhatsApp's own help page, from expired statuses to connection, contacts and updates.
Published October 28, 2026
A status that will not load or will not show can have several causes. This checklist follows WhatsApp's help page on not seeing someone's statuses or replies. Not affiliated with WhatsApp.
If you see "This status is no longer available"
This message can appear when:
- The status expired. A status is only available for 24 hours.
- The person deleted it.
- It was taken down for violating the Terms of Service.
If you were mentioned and cannot see it, ask the person to share it with you again.
Check the other person's side
- They may have changed their status privacy settings. Ask them to check, or check whether you are in their status audience.
- If you have blocked someone, you will not see any messages, replies or status updates from them.
Check your side
- Make sure you and the other person both have a strong mobile data or Wi-Fi connection.
- Add the other person to your contacts and ask them to add you. Check that numbers are saved in full international format.
- If you use multiple accounts, use the account and number your contacts have saved.
- Allow full access to the contacts in your phone's address book. Certain contact names will not appear when you try to call, message or view a status if you have not.
- Reset WhatsApp's app permissions and make sure they are all turned on.
- Restart your device, then open your status list.
- Update WhatsApp to the latest version for your device, then open your status list.
WhatsApp status not showing
If a status is not showing in your list, work out which case fits. An expired, deleted or taken-down status may show "no longer available". A status from someone who changed their status privacy settings may be hidden from you, so ask them to check whether you are in their status audience. A blocked contact's status updates do not show. If a contact's name does not appear, check that their number is saved in full international format and that WhatsApp has full access to your phone's address book. If none of these fit, check your connection, restart the device and update WhatsApp. This follows WhatsApp's help page on not seeing someone's statuses or replies.
FAQ
Why does a status say it is no longer available? It expired after 24 hours, was deleted, or was taken down for violating the Terms of Service.
Can blocking someone hide their status? Yes. If you have blocked someone, you will not see their status updates.
What should I try first on my own phone? Check your connection, then restart the device and open your status list again.

If a status saver app is not listing statuses
That is a different problem from WhatsApp itself not loading a status. See Status saver not showing statuses on Android.
Keeping a status you have viewed
StatusPing is an Android app that saves statuses you have already viewed in WhatsApp, with an hours-left countdown on each one. It does not fix loading problems. See StatusPing.
