What Permissions a Status Saver Needs on Android
Review the permissions a status saver uses on Android, what access each item grants, and what to verify before enabling access on your phone.
Published October 25, 2026
On Android, a status saver requires folder access to read temporary status media stored on your device, plus notification and foreground service permissions if it monitors incoming updates in the background. Optional notification access lets an app log incoming chat notifications to keep a record of deleted text messages. Understanding these permission requests allows you to assess how an app functions on your phone.
Want to see how StatusPing handles these? StatusPing asks you to pick one folder, and notification access is optional. Get it on Google Play.
What each permission does
Folder access (one picked folder only)
To display and save status updates, the app needs to read the directory where incoming media is stored. Android provides a system folder picker where you grant read access to one folder the chat app already wrote. StatusPing does not ask for All files access or photo library permission. The app can read files in that single folder to let you view and copy statuses, but it cannot change or delete the source folder contents.
Notification access (optional, off by default)
Notification access is an optional toggle used only for the deleted-message list. When turned on, the app reads incoming chat notifications so messages remain readable if the sender deletes them later. This feature is off by default. The deleted-message list is forward only from when notification access is turned on and does not include reactions or edits. If notifications are silenced or suppressed by system settings, those messages are not captured.
Notifications and foreground service
Background monitoring uses standard Android notifications and a foreground service with a persistent notification. This persistent alert indicates to both the operating system and the user that the app is actively checking for new updates. Capture depends on your phone's background limits.
Internet connection
StatusPing does not require an account, sign-in, server connection, or cloud sync. Android auto backup is turned off for app data. Nothing StatusPing captures ever leaves your phone; captured photos, videos, and messages stay on your device. The app uses the internet for the ad banner, crash reports, and anonymous usage counts, none carrying photos, videos, messages, or your phone number.
What to check in any status saver
Before granting permissions to any status utility, review how it handles system requests:
- Does it ask for All files access, or only one folder you select through the system picker?
- Does it require an account, login credentials, or phone number?
- Is notification access optional, or is it required just to open the app?
- Does background capture show a persistent notification, or does it attempt to run unannounced?
- Are internet connections restricted to basic app diagnostics and ad banners rather than uploading media?

FAQ
Does a status saver require All files access on Android?
No. An app can operate by asking you to pick one folder via the system folder picker, granting read access to that folder only, without accessing the rest of your storage.
Why is notification access optional in StatusPing?
Notification access is needed only if you choose to use the deleted-message record. It remains off by default, and StatusPing operates its status viewing and saving features without it.
What data does StatusPing transmit across the network?
Nothing StatusPing captures ever leaves your phone. Network requests are used solely for the ad banner, crash reports, and anonymous usage counts, none of which contain photos, videos, messages, or phone numbers.
